Movies By Design & Other Netflix Recommendations
Winter and binging on Netflix go hand-in-hand. (Full disclosure: I embrace my inner grandma and knit whilst watching Netflix. My hands need to keep busy. No offence to the actors or directors. I fidget a lot in movie theatres.)
I've discovered a new category 'Suburban Noir'. Who knew? Many of the ’SubNoir’ series is to mean girl spirited, which affects my sensitive soul.
Amongst Netflix ‘Suburban Noir’ series that I’ve seen and worth your while:
Rebecca - great twist in the end, visually enjoyable. Henry, my film noir expert, wonders if it's based on Hitchcock's film? I thought it looked familiar.
A Simple Favour - twisty and twisted, be careful of asking for favours. The modern architecture and interiors keep me intrigued. The story is intriguing too with very good acting.
Netflix binge-worthy series:
Queen’s Gambit - Visually stunning, suspenseful and intriguing, but not noir.
Lucifer - The devil is noir. I like the intrigue and the theological interpretations of the devil. It is biblically sound - I know my Bible and Dante and as far as I can see - nothing is super blasphemous. I love Lucifer's club and penthouse condo. The penthouse bar is fab and something I would design. (Know of anyone that needs a spectacular bar design?)
Daughter From Another Mother - Mexican - A twist on the child switched at birth theme. The wardrobes, residential and commercial office designs are worth filing in my visual memory bank.
I enjoy Netflix's cultural diversity. The ability to see a variety of series and movies from around the world. I’ve grown up watching Italian and French series and movies - I find their twist and turns more intriguing. American’s are mostly formulaic in their approach. It’s fun and enjoyable - but predictable. Which is fun too - sometimes you don’t want to think too much.
